At West Dunbartonshire Gymnastics Club, every gymnast has the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in all aspects of the sport. Our training programme is designed to improve core strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, which are essential for safe and confident movement both in gymnastics and in everyday life.
Gymnasts will work on a wide variety of apparatus and disciplines, including:
Floor – mastering basic to advanced routines that combine strength, agility, and creativity.
Beam – developing balance, concentration, and precise footwork on one of the most challenging pieces of equipment.
Bars – improving upper-body strength, swing technique, and control through progressive bar skills.
Vault – building explosive power, speed, and safe landings with correct body positioning.
Tumble – learning rolls, flips, and combinations with a focus on technique and progression.
To support every gymnast’s journey, we use our own structured levels system, starting at Level 1 and progressing to Level 4. Each level is designed to challenge gymnasts at the right stage of their development:
Level 1: Introduction to key movements, shapes, and safe practice.
Level 2: Building strength and flexibility while developing confidence on all apparatus.
Level 3: Expanding skill range with more advanced routines and combinations.
Level 4: Refining performance quality and preparing gymnasts for higher-level training and competition opportunities.
This progression ensures that every child can see their improvement, gain a sense of achievement, and enjoy a clear pathway from beginner through to advanced gymnastics.
